I recorded the original audio of this ABC News report from my computer's speakers with a handheld tape recorder and its built-in microphone when the abcnews.go.com RealMedia video streams were still working for this report (which was some time ago), and then I recently used my computer's microphone to record from the same handheld tape recorder's built-in speaker. Thus, the fidelity of this audio recording is not nearly as good as it would be had the RealMedia video streams been captured and saved unaltered (not to mention that the video portion would have been so also saved), but at that time I didn't know about streaming media downloaders such as, e.g., StreamBox VCR Suite, HiDownload, or Offline Explorer.

ABC reporter Dan Harris: The video tape provides a grainy glimpse into what appear to be the initiation rituals of a secret society [low-level screaming in the background audio from aforementioned tape] that's been around since 1832--whose members have gone on to be leaders of Wall Street and the White House, the Senate and the Supreme Court.

New York Observer reporter Ron Rosenbaum: They're sort of trying to scare the initiates, make them uh--you know--disorient them, frighten them.

Harris: New York Observer investigative reporter Ron Rosenbaum accompanied a team of Yale students who shot these pictures nine days ago. Rosenbaum's curiosity about Skull and Bones was permanently peaked, when, as a classmate of George W. Bush he lived right next to The Tomb--the group's heavily fortified home. From their perch, Rosenbaum and his cohorts taped The Tomb's courtyard. What they captured, they say, was initiates known as neophytes [low-level screaming in the background from said tape] being forced to kiss a skull [horrific screaming in the background from said tape] then members performing a mock killing [much louder horrific screaming in the background from said tape]. It may look like your average fraternity nonsense, but Rosenbaum says it's not.

Rosenbaum: Even though it may seem silly to us it seems to mean something to them, and you can't argue with the--the success of Skull and Bones.

Harris: True, famous alums include Senators John Cary and John Chafee to name two, Cabinet Secretaries such as Averell Harriman, and three Presidents: William Taft, George Bush, and George W. Bush--who's been reluctant to talk about Skull and Bones.

George Bush, Jr.: Does it still exist? I'm--the thing is so secret I'm not even sure it still exists.

Harris: In recent years, by many accounts, the on-campus influence and allure of Skull and Bones has waned dramatically, and there is no proof that the rituals recently caught on video tape are the same ones performed by the current President [horrific screaming in the background from said tape].
